Becoming a Mediator
State workers employed in the Executive Branch under 18A who are interested in mediation training may apply to this program by contacting the program branch manager. An application and selection process is involved. Those selected must attend a 45 hour training course which consists of basic mediation techniques and other training such as performance evaluations, working with the Personnel Board, and state government statutes and regulations. The next mediation training has not been scheduled.
Trainings Available Other trainings are available, but must be requested by a manager or above.
- A one-hour presentation can be provided to your agency or selected personnel. This will explain the benefits of mediation and how to use it.
- A four-hour workshop is also available which will teach mediation skills. This workshop does not prepare anyone to be a mediator, but teaches listening skills, non-verbal communication, the use of neutral language, and diffusing volatile situations.
