Treasury to Kentucky! Find Out if You Have Unclaimed Property
Do you own an old inactive savings account? Have you paid a utility deposit that was never refunded to you? Has a loved one passed away and perhaps left a safe deposit box? The Kentucky State Treasury (KST) may be acting as the guardian of your unclaimed assets.
The Kentucky State Treasurer, Todd Hollenbach, is responsible for the safekeeping of all property surrendered to the state that is presumed lost or abandoned.
Each year, millions of dollars – representing unclaimed wages, shares of stock, insurance policy premium refunds, etc., are escheated to the Commonwealth. In addition, KST houses a vault that is full of abandoned safe deposit box contents consisting of cash, heirlooms, silver, fine jewelry, etc.
Treasurer Hollenbach, and Kentucky’s Unclaimed Property Division, wants to return lost property to its rightful owners or heirs. To search for your name and the names of family members and friends, visit the Treasury Web site. If you find your name, you can download a claim form request and the unclaimed property office will mail you an official claim form.
There’s also a link to MissingMoney.com a national database of unclaimed property that lets you search for names in other states that participate in MissingMoney.
KSP Promotes Special License Plate
Applications are now being accepted for a special license plate to help raise funds for Trooper Island, a free summer camp for disadvantaged boys and girls age 10-12 operated by the Kentucky State Police on Dale Hollow Lake in Clinton Co.
In order for the Transportation Cabinet to make this an official tag for vehicle registration in Kentucky, 900 applications must be received by September 2009. The cost is $28.00 at the time of application with an additional $16.00 due at the time of pick up. Applications can be obtained from any state police post or downloaded from the KSP Web site.
Trooper Island is financed entirely by donations, no public funds are used. Each year, the camp hosts approximately 700 children, providing good food, fresh air, recreation, guidance and structured, esteem-building activities designed to build good citizenship and positive relationships with law enforcement officers.
