The Commonwealth's performance evaluation process of state merit employees is an important part of an employee’s work life. The system establishes clear performance goals, recognizes outstanding performance and encourages productive communication with an employee’s supervisor.
The system was developed to assist with communication between the employee and supervisor (evaluator) and includes planning, coaching, feedback, documentation and annual performance evaluation. Performance evaluations are important opportunities for supervisors and employees to share in an open dialog, set goals and methods of attaining goals, and discuss an employee's individual performance.

The following courses are available to employees for self-registration through MyPURPOSE.
Performance with a Purpose
This instructor-led training (ILT) is mandated by law for all supervisors who complete performance evaluations unless provided by your agency personnel. This course is required for all evaluators and provides in-depth knowledge on the Employee Performance Evaluation System. This course provides an overview of the performance management process and the basic skills needed to manage and evaluate performance within the merit system. This course defines and reviews the three phases of performance management and the requirements of 101 KAR 2:190. This training should be a prerequisite to the online tutorial “Guide to Performance Management for Evaluators”.
Performance Management Orientation Video
In this video you will learn about Performance Management and the evaluation process in MyPURPOSE. This video is required for employees and managers who are eligible for the performance evaluation system.
Guide to Performance Management for Evaluators
This tutorial provides the basics of the Performance module in MyPURPOSE and outlines the evaluator's role in the system for Annual Performance Planning, Mid-Year Interim Review and Year-End Interim Review/Final Evaluation. The Performance Management Orientation video is a prerequisite to this tutorial. Users should complete the Orientation video in advance of this tutorial to ensure an understanding of the key terms and processes. This training tutorial is required for all evaluators who have employees eligible for performance an evaluation.
